Bradford Early Years & Childcare Service

Background

The Childcare Act 2006 places a new childcare duty on local authorities to secure sufficient childcare to meet the needs of working parents and those making the transition to work. In fulfilling this duty, local authorities are required to consult with parents.

Bradford Early Years & Childcare Service commissioned Enventure to consult with parents on its draft Childcare Assessment. The project focussed on parents and carers in 14 locality areas identified by the service.

Research Objectives

The aim of the research was to understand whether the Area Profiles, created by the Early Years service matched with the childcare parents’ perceive to be available.

Research Methods

Enventure conducted a programme of both quantitative and qualitative research to fulfil the research objectives, including a street survey, focus groups and in-home interviews.

Results

The findings from the research were used to modify and improve the Childcare Assessment document by ensuring that parents’ perceptions match the Area Profiles.
