NHS Kirklees, Kirklees Council & the National Social Marketing Centre - Social Marketing Evaluation of a Programme to Reduce Obesity Amongst the Student Population

The Department of Health publication, Ambitions for Health, has set out the important role social marketing is seen to have in improving health and in the policy making process. Kirklees had focussed its efforts on changing behaviour that contributes to obesity in students aged 16-24. Enventure was commissioned to conduct an evaluation to enable decisions to be made as to whether the approach should be rolled out more widely, or sustained for this group. To evaluate the programme, we conducted a mix of both qualitative and quantitative research including an evaluation survey at each of the interventions, a street survey, in-depth interviews and student focus groups
