15 01 08 Education & awareness in Newham
Following on from the successful work being undertaken in the Tower Hamlets area, Enventure have been commissioned by Newham to undertake a canvassing project to communicate directly with residents about their local recycling services.
The project currently underway aims to:
- increase awareness of what materials to recycle in the orange bag and to promote better resident participation in the service
- raise awareness of other recycling services in Newham and increase better resident participation in these services
- dispel myths about recycling in Newham, especially about co-collections, and to reassure residents that their recycling efforts count towards making their borough more environmentally friendly
Newham is rated as a poor performing borough on re-cycling, and in recognition of this, Newham has been awarded funding from the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), via the Waste Action Resources Programme (WRAP) to educate the residents of Newham about recycling.
It is hoped that the promotional work will increase participation and the quality of domestic recyclate collected leading to an increased recycling rate in Newham.
