Hackney Council appoints Enventure to support its food waste scheme

Feb 9, 2012

The London Borough of Hackney has a well established weekly collection system.  To improve the recycling service, a food waste recycling collection service was introduced across the borough in March 2007,which provided residents with two additional receptacles to recycle their food waste with.

However, current participation in the food waste recycling service is low, with less than 25% of households participating and only 12.4% of food waste being captured.  The Council, therefore, wishes to carry out a door-knocking exercise focussing on the food waste service, targeting all 49,380 street level properties and possibly 12,620 estate based properties within the scheme, in order to promote this under-utilised service and thereby increase the amount of food waste recycled.

We are pleased to announce that Enventure has been commissioned to carry out this important piece of work and we look forward to working with officers at Hackney Council to ensure a stepped changed in resident participation in the food waste collection scheme.
