The Project

Enventure Research was commissioned by Cheltenham BID and Cheltenham Borough Council to undertake a small-scale visitor survey at the Cheltenham Christmas Market in 2018 in order to evaluate visitors’ experience of the Christmas Market and other festive events and activities to inform planning and development for future Christmas’ in Cheltenham,

Research Methods

A questionnaire was designed in partnership between Enventure Research, Cheltenham BID and Cheltenham Borough Council to cover topics such as party size and demographics including where visitors had travelled from, awareness of events and advertising, satisfaction with the Christmas Market, economic impact of Christmas events and areas for improvement. The questionnaire took around five minutes to complete.

A local team of experienced Interviewer Quality Control Scheme (IQCS) trained interviewers completed the survey face-to-face with 257 visitors to Cheltenham in a number of carefully selected sampling points on specific dates to coincide with particular events.

Results and Benefits to the Client

Following completion of fieldwork and all quality checks, a comprehensive report was provided to the clients, detailing the survey findings in easy-to-understand tables and charts alongside commentary used to bring the results to life.

Cheltenham BID and Cheltenham Borough Council will use the research to continue to develop its Christmas offering in the years to come. The research can also serve as baseline findings should the survey be repeated in the future in order to track visitors’ attitudes and opinions over time.
