The General Dental Council (GDC) wished to conduct a review of its website to ensure that it was meeting the needs of its users. The website is a vital source of information for dental professionals, patients, the general public and GDC staff, including information such as news and publications from within the profession and the GDC’s standards.
Enventure Research was appointed by the General Dental Council to conduct an online survey of its registrants with the aim of gaining insight into their views of the current website and how it could be redesigned to better meet their requirements.
A questionnaire was designed by the GDC and Enventure Research, which aimed to explore dental professional feedback to the website. A number of different topics, such as usage levels of the website, reasons for accessing, design, appearance and functions of the website were explored. The survey also examined suggestions for encouraging increased usage and attitudes towards the online register.
Between 30 April and 26 March 2015, the survey was sent via email to a random sample of 20,000 registrants, from a database which was stratified so as to be broadly representative of the GDC register in terms of registrant type (dentist / dental care professional), gender, country and number of years registered. Each registrant received a personalised email invitation which contained a unique link to the survey. Follow-up reminder emails were sent to those yet to respond.
The survey was also promoted via the GDC e-newsletter sent to registrants on 30 April 2015 in order to boost the response rate.
Results and Benefits to the Client
In total, 1,020 GDC registrants took part in the online survey, providing a robust sample size to draw results from. Enventure Research provided a detailed comprehensive research report upon completion of the survey. The results were used by the GDC to improve their website offer for its users.
