The Project
Western Riverside Waste Authority (WRWA) is the waste disposal authority that works with the London Borough Councils of Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea, Lambeth and Wandsworth. Enventure Research has previously worked with WRWA to deliver two successful doorstep recycling engagement campaigns and was re-commissioned to deliver a third campaign in 2015.
Research Methods
A short conversational script was designed by Enventure Research, WRWA and the Waste Resource Action Programme (WRAP) to collect useful data and form a discussion with the resident. Topics covered included awareness of recent communication materials, usage of the recycling service, materials recycling, reasons for not recycling, encouragement factors to recycle more, barriers to recycling participation and satisfaction with the services provided. In particular, the questionnaire aimed to measure the success of recent glass and paper recycling communication campaigns.
An experienced team of four Recycling Promoters from Enventure Research visited properties across the authority’s four constituent Boroughs. Residents’ responses were recorded with Computer Aided Personal Interviewing (CAPI) devices, which allowed data to be transmitted back to the Enventure Research office on a daily basis.
Results and Benefits to the Client
In just under five weeks, the team visited 11,500 properties and successfully made contact with 3,478 residents. Upon fieldwork completion, WRWA was provided with a comprehensive research report which detailed the key findings from the doorstepping activity. The results build on those gained from a previous doorstepping engagement campaign conducted by Enventure Research in 2014.
